How to Make a Perfect Circle in Minecraft

You build a circle in Minecraft by following a pixel-art grid that shows exactly how many blocks to place in each row.

Set your diameter

Pick any size from 1 to 128 blocks. Hollow circles work best for lighthouse bases and tower walls. A hollow circle with diameter 15 uses 44 blocks for the outline; diameter 21 uses 64 blocks.

Building aids that prevent mistakes

Turn on row numbers to see segment counts on the grid. Enable stair placement where stairs smooth the curve from a distance. These two toggles alone cut rebuilds on large towers.

The best tower layouts use odd-numbered diameters like 11, 15, or 21 because they have a single center block for easy alignment.

Odd vs even diameters

Odd diameters give a 1-block center — ideal for beacons, chandeliers, and 1-wide doors. Even diameters create a 2×2 center that throws doorways off-center when you connect a 1-wide corridor.

Popular tower footprints

• Diameter 5 or 7 — Guard turrets, wells, chimney caps (about 12–16 outline blocks)
• Diameter 11 or 15 — Medieval towers and lighthouses (44 blocks hollow at 15)
• Diameter 21 — Wizard towers and keep gates (64 outline blocks)

Plan stairs and ladders before you build. A 15-block footprint leaves room for a 3-wide spiral staircase with a central pillar.

You build a dome by stacking circles of progressively smaller diameters on top of each other.

Sphere and dome construction
