What Is the Basic Fuel Cost Formula?

In imperial units (miles and MPG):

Gallons needed = distance (miles) ÷ MPG

Fuel cost = gallons × price per gallon

In metric units (km and L/100km):

Liters needed = (distance (km) × L/100km) ÷ 100
